We landed at Reno, planning to start for Lake Tahoe the next day. We enjoyed our evening.
There is a river going through the downtown. The juxtaposition of the buildings and trees in the landscape on both sides expresses the human ingenuity and innovative design to bring nature to the urban pace and living. The sounds of the river water blended with the vibrant fall colors on the trees and drew us in. There are stones on both sides to enjoy the colors and music of the water.
Dolphins Sculpture in Downtown
A sculpture of a dolphin and her child is at the edge of the skate park downtown. In the evening, the lights inside it create mesmerizing effects. It is huge when I look at it from a close distance. It brought up the playfulness of dolphins swimming, jumping around, and having fun in the ocean waters.
There are murals on the building walls in Reno with various themes and colors.
We went to a local family-owned Indian Restaurant – The Thali. The owner, Sukhjeet, and their staff served us excellent North Indian food. Thali is a traditional Indian way of enjoying meals at home. I loved the innovative idea of bringing that experience to the urban restaurant. The food quality beautifully recapped our day in Reno. That is the closest I have experienced to a home-cooked meal in a restaurant.
There is a beautiful wall-size mural of a colored bird in the restaurant’s reception area. Sukhjeet shared the story about it, and it all felt so fitting for the city of murals.
